Gary Potterfield

Gary Potterfield was sitting in a freshman accounting class one day, too many years ago to count, ignoring the professor and daydreaming that what he really wanted to do was write. Since accountants mostly just write numbers, Gary abandoned accounting and the university that taught it. For the next 26 years, he was a Navy Journalist. He wrote plenty, but also worked in radio, television and public affairs. 

For about half of those 26 years, every time Gary asked, “Where am I going next?” the Navy replied, “Italy.” Gary didn’t complain. Nobody likes a complainer. The Navy sent him to Sicily, which is actually about two miles from mainland Italy, but close enough. They also sent him to Sardinia, Gaeta and Naples over the years, plus a half dozen other places. After Gary wrapped up that career, the Navy stopped making journalists. Pure coincidence, or so the writer of this bio insists.

Ever since those Navy days, Gary has been studiously avoiding accounting by working in a public relations firm (www.voxoptima.com). When not vox optimizing, he pursues his true passion, vainly attempting to unravel the mysteries of Sicily.
